Ranking the Top 10 NFL Teams: Week 9
bostonmountainpublishing.com November 3, 2026

We have ranked the Top 10 NFL teams heading into Week 9 of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Heading into Week 9, the 2026 NFL season is starting to take shape, and the playoff picture
is becoming a little clearer. The Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago
Bears, and San Francisco 49ers are among the teams putting together strong starts, while
several other contenders are trying to establish themselves as legitimate Super Bowl favorites.
The Buffalo Bills made a statement with a convincing 36-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens, while the Denver Broncos handed the Kansas City Chiefs another disappointing loss with a 28-24 victory. The Chicago Bears also picked up an impressive 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, extending their winning streak to three games. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings 19-15 in an important NFC North matchup
.
There is no shortage of movement in the power rankings this week. The Vikings suffered theirfirst loss of the season, Kansas City has now dropped two straight, and teams like Jacksonvilleand Cincinnati continue to build momentum. With the regular season approaching its halfway point, the next few weeks should give us a much better idea of which teams are legitimate
contenders and which teams will be fighting to stay in the playoff picture.
#10 - NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 5-3
AFC EAST
The Patriots remain in the Top 10 this week after picking up an important 24-19 win over the Miami Dolphins. New England has now won four of its last five games and continues to put itself in a good position within the AFC East.
The Patriots have been one of the more consistent teams over the past several weeks. Their 5-3 record puts them behind Buffalo in the division, but they have shown enough to remain in the playoff conversation.
New England's offense has been productive, and the team has found ways to win games even when things have not gone perfectly. The defense will need to continue improving, especially with tougher matchups coming against teams with more explosive offenses.
Buffalo currently leads the division at 6-1, so the Patriots will need to keep winning if they want to create a realistic opportunity to challenge for the AFC East title.
The upcoming matchup against Green Bay will be an important test. The Packers are coming off a win over Carolina and have also been playing well. If New England can put together another complete performance, it could continue climbing the rankings over the next few weeks. The Patriots are not quite among the elite teams in the AFC yet, but their recent performances suggest they should not be overlooked.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Green Bay Packers @ New England Patriots
#9 - DETROIT LIONS 5-2
NFC NORTH
The Lions move up into the Top 10 this week after picking up an important 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit has now won three straight games and handed Minnesota its first loss of the season.
This was a big divisional victory for the Lions. Minnesota entered the matchup undefeated at 6-0, but Detroit's defense did enough to limit the Vikings and come away with an important win. Detroit has continued to show that it can compete with the better teams in the NFC. The Lions have scored 203 points through their first seven games, which is one of the more impressive offensive totals in the league. They have also been able to win close games, something that will become increasingly important as the season progresses.
The NFC North remains one of the toughest divisions in football. Minnesota is still ahead of Detroit at 6-1, while Chicago has also improved to 6-2 after its impressive win over Seattle.
The Lions have an opportunity to make a serious push for the division title, but they cannot afford to slow down. Their upcoming matchup against Miami is a chance to extend their winning streak and continue building momentum.
Detroit has shown enough over the past few weeks to deserve a spot in the Top 10. If the offense continues producing and the defense keeps making important stops, this team could move even higher in the rankings.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Detroit Lions @ Miami Dolphins
#8 - JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 5-2
AFC SOUTH
The Jaguars move up this week after putting together one of the most impressive performances of Week 8. Jacksonville picked up a dominant 42-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts, improving to 5-2 and strengthening its position near the top of the AFC South.
The Jaguars controlled this game from the beginning. Their offense was able to produce consistently, while the defense limited Indianapolis to just seven points. It was the type of complete performance that Jacksonville needed after suffering a loss to Houston earlier in the season.
Jacksonville has scored 196 points through its first seven games while allowing just 111. That gives the Jaguars a positive point differential of 85, which is one of the strongest marks among the teams in the AFC. The Jaguars currently lead the AFC South, and they have an opportunity to create more separation over the next several weeks. The Colts have struggled recently, while Houston and Tennessee have not been able to put together consistent winning stretches.
The biggest challenge for Jacksonville will be maintaining this level of performance against stronger opponents. The roster has enough talent to compete with the better teams in the conference, but the Jaguars need to prove they can consistently win important games.
A Thursday night matchup against Baltimore is next. The Ravens are coming off a difficult 36-10 loss to Buffalo and will be looking to bounce back. This should be an interesting test for Jacksonville. Another strong performance would go a long way toward establishing the Jaguars as legitimate AFC contenders.
Upcoming Games:
Thursday, November 5
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Baltimore Ravens
#7 - CINCINNATI BENGALS 5-2
AFC NORTH
The Bengals continue to climb the power rankings after picking up an impressive 43-36 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans. Cincinnati has now won three straight games and improved to 5-2, keeping itself firmly in the AFC North race.
The offense was the biggest story of Sunday's victory. Joe Burrow put together an outstanding performance, throwing for 462 yards and five touchdowns. Tee Higgins also had a huge game, finishing with 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Cincinnati needed a performance like this after struggling against Baltimore earlier in the season. The Bengals have shown that their offense can compete with almost anyone when everything is working, and Sunday's game was a reminder of how dangerous this team can be.
The AFC North remains a competitive division. Pittsburgh currently leads at 6-2, while Cincinnati sits at 5-2. Cleveland is also 5-3, although Baltimore has fallen back to 4-4 after losing three straight games. The Bengals have the offensive talent to make a serious playoff run, but they will need to become more consistent defensively. Allowing 36 points to Tennessee is not ideal, especially when facing some of the stronger offenses in the conference.
Cincinnati has another opportunity to build momentum this weekend against Atlanta. The Falcons are coming off a shutout loss to Tampa Bay, but they have already shown they can compete with quality opponents after defeating San Francisco earlier in the season.
If the Bengals can continue producing offensively while improving defensively, they have a chance to move even higher in the power rankings.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Cincinnati Bengals @ Atlanta Falcons
#6 - PITTSBURGH STEELERS 6-2
AFC NORTH
```html
The Steelers continue to climb the rankings after picking up a convincing 27-6 win over the Cleveland Browns. Pittsburgh has now won four straight games and currently sits at the top of the AFC North with a 6-2 record.
The Steelers have been one of the more consistent teams in the AFC over the past several weeks. Their defense has continued to make life difficult for opposing offenses, and Sunday's performance against Cleveland was another example of how effective this team can be when it controls the game.
Pittsburgh limited the Browns to just six points, while the offense did enough to secure a comfortable divisional victory. Najee Harris and the running game have helped provide balance, while the defense continues to be a major part of the team's success.
The AFC North is still competitive, with Cincinnati sitting just behind Pittsburgh at 5-2. Cleveland is also in the mix at 5-3, although Baltimore has struggled recently and fallen to .500.
The Steelers have put themselves in a strong position, but there is still plenty of football left to play. Their ability to win divisional games will be especially important as the season moves toward December. Pittsburgh has a bye in Week 9, which gives the team an opportunity to rest and prepare for the next stretch of games. The Steelers may not have the most explosive offense in the league, but their defense and ability to win close games make them a difficult opponent. If they can continue playing at this level, they should remain one of the stronger teams in the AFC.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 15
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals
#5 - MINNESOTA VIKINGS 6-1
NFC NORTH
The Vikings drop one spot this week after suffering their first loss of the season against the Detroit Lions. Minnesota entered Week 8 as the last undefeated team in the NFL, but Detroit came away with a 19-15 victory in an important divisional matchup.
It was a disappointing result for Minnesota, especially considering how well the team had played through the first six games. The Vikings struggled to generate enough offense against Detroit's defense, and the Lions were able to make the important plays when they needed them.
Even with the loss, Minnesota remains one of the strongest teams in the NFC. The Vikings have started the season 6-1 and have already shown they can compete with some of the better teams in the league.
The NFC North is becoming increasingly competitive. Detroit improved to 5-2 with the victory, while Chicago is also 6-2 after defeating Seattle on Monday night. Green Bay has quietly improved to 5-3 as well. Minnesota still has the advantage in the division standings, but it cannot afford to let one loss turn into a losing streak. The team needs to get its offense back on track and continue playing the kind of defense that helped it get off to such a strong start.
The Vikings have a major test coming up against Buffalo. The Bills are currently one of the top teams in the AFC and are coming off a dominant win over Baltimore.
This should be one of the more interesting matchups of Week 9. Minnesota has an opportunity to prove that its early-season success was no fluke, but Buffalo will be a difficult opponent.
Upcoming Games:
Monday, November 9
Buffalo Bills @ Minnesota Vikings
#4 - SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS 6-1
NFC WEST
The 49ers hold their position near the top of the power rankings despite not playing in Week 8. San Francisco had a bye following its first loss of the season against the Atlanta Falcons, and the team now has an opportunity to regroup before returning to action.
The 49ers started the season extremely well, winning their first six games before falling 29-20 to Atlanta in Week 7. While that loss was disappointing, it does not change the fact that San Francisco has been one of the most consistent teams in the NFC.
The 49ers have scored 197 points through their first seven games while allowing 139. Their positive point differential of 58 shows that they have been effective on both sides of the ball.
The NFC West is becoming more interesting as the season progresses. Seattle dropped to 4-4 after losing to Chicago on Monday night, while the Rams improved to 4-4 following their 24-9 win over the Chargers.
San Francisco remains in a strong position at 6-1 and currently leads the division. The important thing now is getting back to playing consistent football and avoiding another setback. The 49ers have a favorable opportunity to bounce back against the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend. The Raiders improved to 4-4 after defeating the New York Jets, so San Francisco cannot afford to overlook them. If the 49ers can get their offense moving again and continue playing strong defense, they should remain one of the teams to beat in the NFC.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Las Vegas Raiders @ San Francisco 49ers
#3 - CHICAGO BEARS 6-2
NFC NORTH
The Bears make one of the biggest jumps in this week's rankings after picking up an impressive 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. Chicago has now won three straight games and improved to 6-2, putting itself firmly in the NFC playoff conversation.
This was an important victory for Chicago, especially considering how difficult it can be to win on the road against Seattle. The Bears controlled much of the game and found a way to pull away in the fourth quarter after the Seahawks briefly made things interesting.
Caleb Williams had another strong performance, completing 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown. D'Andre Swift was also a major part of the victory, finishing with 69 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The Bears' defense deserves plenty of credit as well. Chicago limited Seattle to 252 total yards and forced an important interception late in the game. The Seahawks struggled to establish their running game, and the Bears took advantage of several opportunities to extend their lead.
Chicago is now 6-2 and tied with Minnesota near the top of the NFC North. Detroit is also playing well at 5-2, making this one of the most competitive divisions in football.
The Bears have been able to find different ways to win games, and that is an encouraging sign for a team with playoff aspirations. Their offense has continued to improve, while the defense has shown it can make important plays against quality opponents.
The next matchup against Tampa Bay will be another important test. The Buccaneers are coming off a 16-0 shutout win over Atlanta, so Chicago will need to be ready for a physical game. If the Bears can continue playing this way, they have a chance to become one of the most dangerous teams in the NFC.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears
#2 - DENVER BRONCOS 6-2
AFC WEST
The Broncos move up in this week's rankings after picking up a huge 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Denver has now won four straight games and improved to 6-2, putting itself in an excellent position in the AFC West.
This was arguably one of the biggest games of the week for Denver. The Chiefs entered the matchup as one of the top teams in the conference, but the Broncos were able to make the important plays and come away with a divisional victory.
Kansas City put together a strong offensive performance, scoring 24 points and getting 321 passing yards from Patrick Mahomes. However, Denver's offense did enough to stay ahead, and the Broncos managed to close out an important win.
Denver has been playing some of its best football of the season over the past month. The team has won four consecutive games, including victories over Arizona and Kansas City, and is starting to look like a legitimate contender in the AFC. The AFC West is still competitive, but the Broncos currently sit at 6-2, ahead of the Chiefs at 5-2. Kansas City has now lost two straight games, which gives Denver an opportunity to create some separation in the division.
The biggest challenge for the Broncos will be maintaining their consistency against teams outside the division. They have shown they can compete with Kansas City, but the next several weeks will determine whether they can keep their position near the top of the AFC.
Denver travels to Carolina this weekend, and this is a game the Broncos should be looking to win. The Panthers have struggled recently, so Denver needs to take advantage of the opportunity. If the Broncos can extend their winning streak to five games, they could make an even stronger case for the top spot in next week's rankings.
Upcoming Games:
Sunday, November 8
Denver Broncos @ Carolina Panthers
#1 - BUFFALO BILLS 6-1
AFC EAST
The Bills remain at the top of our power rankings this week after putting together one of the most impressive performances of Week 8. Buffalo picked up a dominant 36-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens, improving to 6-1 and extending its winning streak to three games.
Buffalo controlled this game from start to finish. The offense was able to move the ball consistently, while the defense limited Baltimore to just 10 points. Josh Allen threw for 289 yards, and the Bills looked like a team that is starting to find its rhythm at the right time.
The Bills have scored 233 points through their first seven games while allowing 181. Their offense has been one of the more productive units in the league, and the team has shown it has enough talent to compete with just about anyone.
Buffalo currently leads the AFC East at 6-1, with New England sitting behind at 5-3. The Patriots have been playing well recently, but the Bills have put themselves in a strong position to maintain their advantage in the division. The biggest question for Buffalo will be whether the defense can continue performing against the better offenses in the league. The win over Baltimore was encouraging, but the schedule is only going to get more difficult as the season progresses.
The upcoming matchup against Minnesota will be a major test. The Vikings are 6-1 and remain one of the strongest teams in the NFC despite suffering their first loss of the season against Detroit. This game should provide a good indication of where Buffalo stands among the league's elite teams. The Bills have the talent to win on the road, but Minnesota will be looking to bounce back after its first defeat.
For now, Buffalo earns the top spot in our rankings. The Bills have one of the best records in the league, an explosive offense, and the experience needed to make a serious run at the AFC title. There is still plenty of football left to play, but Buffalo has put itself in an excellent position heading into Week 9.
Upcoming Games:
Monday, November 9
Buffalo Bills @ Minnesota Vikings
Final Thoughts
The 2026 NFL season is becoming increasingly competitive, and Week 8 gave us another look at which teams are capable of making a serious playoff run. Buffalo holds onto the top spot after its dominant win over Baltimore, while Denver continues to climb after defeating Kansas City for its fourth consecutive victory.
Chicago also deserves plenty of attention after its impressive Monday night win over Seattle. The Bears are now 6-2 and have established themselves as a legitimate contender in the NFC. Meanwhile, Minnesota suffered its first loss of the season, but the Vikings remain one of the strongest teams in the league.
San Francisco continues to hold a strong position at 6-1, while Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are both putting together impressive stretches in the AFC North. Jacksonville also made a statement with its 42-7 win over Indianapolis, and Detroit continues to build momentum after defeating Minnesota.
Kansas City is one of the more interesting teams to watch moving forward. The Chiefs have now lost two straight games, including back-to-back losses against Seattle and Denver. They still have the talent and experience to turn things around, but they will need to respond quickly.
The biggest thing to watch over the next few weeks will be how these teams handle the increasingly difficult schedules ahead. Divisional matchups, conference games, and the battle for playoff positioning will become even more important as we move closer to the halfway point of the season.
Week 9 features several important matchups, including Jacksonville against Baltimore, Denver against Carolina, Cincinnati against Atlanta, and Buffalo against Minnesota on Monday night.
There is still plenty of football left to play, but the separation between legitimate contenders and teams fighting to stay relevant is starting to become more noticeable. We'll see who can keep the momentum going and who starts to slide as the NFL season moves further into November.
