Week 8 -

Top Games of the Weekend:

Preview and Predictions

After one of the wildest weekends of College Football, Week 8 is filled with teams trying to re-find their identity and figuring out a way to continue forward to a successful finish to the season. Other teams will be focused on not getting too far ahead of themselves and finding a way to keep going game by game. There are plenty of games to watch and several teams are putting their undefeated titles on the line.

(21) MISSISSIPPI STATE @ (6) ALABAMA 7/6 (c) ESPN

Each of these teams will be trying to get back into the win column after being defeated last week by two SEC East squads. For Alabama, the game heard around the world was a really rough loss in Knoxville. This game is where we will find out what this Alabama team is made of this weekend. Will they feel defeated and struggle here, or will they come in and dominate like a playoff contender would. Mississippi State Coach Mike Leach was asked about rebounding after a loss, he said, “the keys to rebounding after a loss are simple: stick together and work hard.” via (Daily Journal Sports). That may not be as easy as it seems now with the Bulldogs also dealing with the passing of one of their student athletes this week in Sam Westmoreland. This is an unfortunate dynamic that will bring a lot of emotion to this game, and it'll be great to see the brotherhood when the Bulldogs take the field.

Prediction - Alabama

(9) UCLA @ (10) OREGON 3:30/2:30 (c) FOX

Eugene, Oregon

Top Ten matchup with potential playoff implications on the line. For UCLA, their high scoring offense has been unbeatable. On the other side, Oregon has only lost one game this year and it was on the road to unbeaten Georgia in Week 1. Since then, they have not looked back dominating their opponents. Expect a high scoring game here as each of these teams are rated in the Top 15 for total offense. Each offense is extremely efficient, but only one defense is in the Top 40 of total defense and that is the Bruins. The Ducks are outside the Top 50 in defense so that is where I will give the edge this week, UCLA will be able to get more stops in this one.

Prediction - UCLA

(11) SYRACUSE @ (4) CLEMSON 12/11 (c) ABC

Now for my favorite game of the week. Syracuse is continuing to fly under the radar. Even after a convincing win over NC State, the Syracuse Orange are not getting talked about enough in the national media. This game will feature the only undefeated teams left in the ACC and it should be a thriller. The game will be played at Clemson which is where many stop talking and like to just say Clemson will win the game. Clemson has struggled this year in many games, and I don't think this is an exception. After squeaking by a very average Florida State team last week, the Tigers will have to play another tough matchup. The way Syracuse will come out on top is with their defense. They will get to the quarterback, giving the Clemson O=Lone fits as the Orange feature the #8 defense in the nation. The winner of this game will be sitting in the driver's seat to get the invitation to appear in the ACC Championship Game.

Prediction - Syracuse

(14) KANSAS STATE @ (7) TCU 8/7 (c) FS1

Eli Huggins, Defensive Lineman for Kansas State believes his team, fresh off their BYE Week will be ready to go this weekend. He said, “Off weeks are big. We had it in the perfect spot of the season, right in the middle of the season. I think a lot of people will be coming back rejuvenated, bodies feeling good, minds feeling good. It’s just a good break.” Each of these teams are having great years, exceeding expectations by far. For TCU, they have a real shot to make the playoffs this year as the only unbeaten team left in the Big 12. This will be a great test for the Horned Frogs as they take on a very balanced Kansas State team that features a good defense. At the end of the day, KSU will be taking on the #3 Offense in the country which I believe will be too powerful for the Wildcats to stop.

Prediction - TCU

(15) TEXAS @ (13) OKLAHOMA STATE 3:30/2:30 (c) ABC

We will have a great matchup between Texas and Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. There are a lot of people who say if Quarterback Quinn Ewers never went down, you would be looking at a Top Ranked Texas team right now. That statement is hard to not agree with, because when he has played, they have looked pretty good. This will be no easy task for Texas as Oklahoma State is a team with one of the best statistical quarterbacks in the country. I'm not sure if the Longhorn defense will be able to stop that, so simply enough that's why I'm going to pick the Cowboys.

Prediction - Oklahoma State
