BIG XII Power Rankings: Week 11

Top 7 Teams in the BIG 12

Boston Mountain Publishing, Tuesday. November 8, 2022 4:59 PM

We have ranked the Top 7 in the BIG XII Conference through Week 10 and discuss their outlooks going forward.

BIG XII TEAM POWER RANKINGS

Game of the Week

Texas 34 vs Kansas State 27

Kansas State was coming in hot after their blowout win against Oklahoma State last weekend. The Wildcats looked ready heading into this weekend's game. Texas did not care about that at all though, and instead dominated the first two quarters leading 31-10 at half. Kansas State battled back late in the fourth to make it a game, but Bijan Robinson's 30 carries on the ground just ate the Wildcats up all day. Great win for the Longhorns as they continue to be one of the most well-rounded teams in college football and still in contention for the Big XII Championship.

Heading into Week 11 of the 2022 College Football season, there is 1 team that remains in the CFP talks from the Big 12 Conference.

Games of the Week

TEXAS @ TCU

KANSAS STATE @ BAYLOR

#7 - OKLAHOMA SOONERS 5-4

Conference Record: 2-4

Norman, Oklahoma

After the Sooners picked up their biggest win of the season against Kansas 52-42 at home a few weeks ago, they followed that up with a win over Iowa State 27-13 on the road following their BYE week. The Sooners were finally trending in the right direction under 1st year Coach Brent Venables, but Baylor put a stop to their momentum visiting Norman and leaving with a close win over the Sooners 38-35 on Saturday. They should still get to the all-important 6-win mark at the very least. They have the 2nd most favorable schedule remaining of the teams in the Top 7.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

Oklahoma

@ West Virginia (3-6)

Saturday November 19

Oklahoma State (6-3)

@ Oklahoma

Saturday November 26

Oklahoma

@ Texas Tech (4-5)

#6 - BAYLOR BEARS 6-3

Conference Record: 4-2

Baylor had the nations eyes on them early in the 2022 season, but a tough overtime loss to BYU on the road in Week 2 and (abra cadabra) vanished from the conversation. That game in Provo actually finished on Sunday morning and could have gone either way. There were some errors on both teams which was obvious to the viewers at home.

Well, they have re-emerged in the last few weeks with some exciting wins. They have some statement games ahead, and they still have a path to the Championship game. Probably the toughest stretch for the Bears here on out and it begins this weekend at home against Kansas State.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Richard Reese ranks #5 with 13 rushing TDs on the year

  • Ranked #19 in rushing yards allowed per carry at 4.72

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

Kansas State (6-3)

@ Baylor

Saturday November 19

TCU (9-0)

@ Baylor

Saturday November 26

Baylor

@ Texas (6-3)

#5 - KANSAS JAYHAWKS 6-3

Conference Record: 3-3

The Jayhawks were the talk of the country until ESPN Gameday showed up against TCU in Lawrence a few weeks ago. Kansas was riding high and that came crashing down in a tough defeat 38-31 at home. They followed up that tough loss with another tough loss on the road against Oklahoma 52-42. They are putting up points in the offense heavy Big XII, but the defense has come up short in their last three appearances. Last weekend at home was the game to get back on track and they did just that, taking down Oklahoma State 37-16 to stay in the Big XII race. Kansas came out in the first half and piled on the points early, too many for the Cowboys to catch up in the 2nd half. Should be a good game in Lubbock this weekend.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

Kansas

@ Texas Tech (4-5)

Saturday November 19

Texas (6-3)

@ Kansas

Saturday November 26

Kansas

@ Kansas State (6-3)

#4 - OKLAHOMA STATE 6-3

Conference Record: 3-3

Still in shock of the Kansas State 48-0 blowout from last weekend. Well, the Cowboys response to the tough loss was a follow up loss to Kansas 37-16 this past weekend. They still have the most favorable schedule remaining of the teams in the Top 7 but their play over the last 2 weeks is not enough to get to the Championship game. This is a crucial week for Oklahoma State to get a win, especially at home.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • QB Spencer Sanders is ranked #24 with 2,177 yards passing on the year.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

Iowa State (4-5)

@ Oklahoma State

Saturday November 19

Oklahoma State

@ Oklahoma (5-4)

Saturday November 26

West Virginia (3-6)

@ Oklahoma State

#3 - TEXAS LONGHORNS 6-3

Conference Record: 4-2

The Longhorns were coming off a BYE week, last playing Oklahoma State and losing 41-34 on the road. With 2 weeks to prepare for the red-hot Kansas State Wildcats, Texas worked on the Offense as they were able to get it going this weekend in a game they needed to win to stay competitive within the league. Texas came out hot in the first half scoring 31 of their 34 points on the day. Way too many for the Wildcats overcome. They have a chance to secure a Championship game invitation his season, with all of their remaining games being in conference and not one of them is a lock. Their toughest games are ahead.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Bijan Robinson is ranked #5 in the nation with 1,443 all-purpose yards this season. An average of 16.33 yards per game. He also ranks #11 with 12 rushing TDs.

  • WR Xavier Worthy ranks #4 with 9 receiving TDs

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

TCU (9-0)

@ Texas

Saturday November 19

Texas

@ Kansas (6-3)

Saturday November 26

Baylor (6-3)

@ Texas

#2 - KANSAS STATE 6-3

Conference Record: 4-2

Still impressed by their win over Oklahoma State but they followed that up with a loss at home to Texas 34-27 on Saturday. Obviously, their offense can score, but the Defense didn't play at the level they played at the week before against Oklahoma State when they held the Cowboys to 0 points. Their Defense was giving up an average of 30 a game on the season, right on target.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats still have an opportunity to make the Championship game, but they will need to win out and hope for a few Texas losses. Their opportunity may have slipped away last weekend??

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Deuce Vaughn is ranked #19 in the nation with 1,191 all-purpose yards on the year.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

Kansas State

@ Baylor (6-3)

Saturday November 19

Kansas State

@ West Virginia (3-6)

Saturday November 26

Kansas (6-3)

@ Kansas State

#1 - TCU HORNED FROGS 9-0

Conference Record: 6-0

Ranked #4 in AP Poll

There's a path for the Horned Frogs to go the distance this year. They should be favored in each game here on out. It's trending towards a meetup with Texas in the Championship game and a possible undefeated season. We get a sneak peek this weekend when the Horned Frogs head to Austin for the Big XII game of the week.

Will an undefeated season translate to a spot in the CFP??? Way too much season to play out before we go too far in that conversation.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • Ranked #3 in points per game 43.1

  • QB Max Duggan ranks #9 with 24 passing TDs, #23 with 2,407 passing yards while only throwing 2 INTs on the year.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 12

TCU

@ Texas (6-3)

Saturday November 19

TCU

@ Baylor (6-3)

Saturday November 26

Iowa State (4-5)

@ TCU
