BIG XII Power Rankings: Week 10

Top 7 Teams in the BIG 12

Boston Mountain Publishing, Wednesday. November 2, 2022 2:50 PM

We have ranked the Top 7 in the BIG XII Conference through Week 9 and discuss their outlooks going forward.

BIG XII TEAM POWER RANKINGS

Game of the Week

KANSAS STATE 48 vs OKLAHOMA STATE 0

This final score was shocking. We have watched Oklahoma State score 40, 50, even 60 points in games this year and Kansas State didn't allow a single point on Saturday. The Wildcats had no trouble all day against the Cowboys. There was just no fight whatsoever from Oklahoma State who fell to 6-2 on the season. Kansas State was up 35-0 at halftime and mid-way through the 3rd Quarter they were able to play their backups and get some rest. Dominate performance by the Wildcats and they move to 6-2 on the year.

Heading into Week 10 of the 2022 College Football season, there is 1 team that remains in the CFP talks from the Big 12 Conference.

#7 - KANSAS JAYHAWKS 5-3

Conference Record: 2-3

The Jayhawks were the talk of the country until ESPN Gameday showed up against TCU in Lawrence a few weeks ago. Kansas was riding high and that came crashing down in a tough defeat 38-31 at home. They followed up that tough loss with another tough loss on the road against Oklahoma 52-42. They are putting up points in the offense heavy Big XII, but the defense has come up short in their last three appearances. This weekend at home should be a game to get back on track as they take on an Oklahoma State team reeling from last week's loss.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Devin Neal ranks #19 averaging 6.24 yards per carry

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Oklahoma State

@ Kansas

Saturday November 12

Kansas

@ Texas Tech

#6 - OKLAHOMA SOONERS 5-3

Conference Record: 2-3

Norman, Oklahoma

After the Sooners picked up their biggest win of the season against Kansas 52-42 at home a few weeks ago, they followed that up with a win over Iowa State 27-13 on the road following their BYE week this past weekend. The Sooners are trending in the right direction under 1st year Coach Brent Venables and should get to the all-important 6-win mark at the very least. They have the 2nd most favorable schedule remaining of the teams in the Top 7.

Oklahoma has all conference games remaining on their schedule so there is a chance for the Sooners to cause some confusion to who receives the final Championship game appearance.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Baylor

@ Oklahoma

Saturday November 12

Oklahoma

@ West Virginia

#5 - BAYLOR BEARS 5-3

Conference Record: 3-2

Baylor had the nations eyes on them early in the 2022 season, but a tough overtime loss to BYU on the road in Week 2 and (abra cadabra) vanished from the conversation. That game in Provo actually finished on Sunday morning and could have gone either way. There were some errors on both teams which was obvious to the viewers at home. Well, they have re-emerged in the last few weeks with some exciting wins. They have some statement games ahead, starting this weekend traveling to Norman to take on the Sooners.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Richard Reese ranks #7 with 12 rushing TDs on the year

  • Ranked #22 in rushing yards allowed per carry at 3.42

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Baylor

@ Oklahoma

Saturday November 12

Kansas State

@ Baylor

#4 - TEXAS LONGHORNS 5-3

Conference Record: 3-2

The Longhorns are coming off a BYE week, last playing Oklahoma State and losing 41-34 on the road. With 2 weeks to prepare for the red-hot Kansas State Wildcats, hopefully Texas has worked on the Offense as they will need to get it going this weekend, really here on out to stay competitive within the league. They have a chance to secure a bowl game invitation this season, but all of their remaining games are in conference and not one of them is a lock. Their toughest games are ahead.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Bijan Robinson is ranked #7 in the nation with 1,200 all-purpose yards this season an average of 150 yards per game. He also ranks #9 with 11 rushing TDs.

  • WR Xavier Worthy ranks #18 with 7 receiving TDs

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Texas

@ Kansas State

Saturday November 12

TCU

@ Texas

#3 - OKLAHOMA STATE 6-2

Conference Record: 3-2

Again, still in shock of the 48-0 blowout from last weekend. No points? 0. We'll see how the Cowboys respond this weekend against Kansas. They have the most favorable schedule remaining of the teams in the Top 7 but...

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • QB Spencer Sanders is ranked #23 with 2,177 yards passing on the year.

  • S Jason Taylor II ranks #12 with 5.5 solo tackles per game

  • LB Mason Cobb ranks #19 with 5.2 solo tackles per game

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Oklahoma State

@ Kansas

Saturday November 12

Iowa State

@ Oklahoma State

#2 - KANSAS STATE 6-2

Conference Record: 4-1

Still impressed by their win this weekend. Obviously, their offense can score, but the D held an Oklahoma State team to 0 points, and they average over 30 a game on the season.

Looking ahead, Texas visits Manhattan, Kansas this weekend and the Wildcats have an opportunity to create some space in the division by taking down the Longhorns and staying 2 games up with 3 to go.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • RB Deuce Vaughn is ranked #21 in the nation with 1,032 all-purpose yards on the year. 129 yards per game.

  • QB Adrian Martinez ranks #21 with 9 rushing TDs and #21 averaging 6.14 rushing yards per carry.

  • DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah ranks #2 with 7.5 Sacks on the year.

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

Texas

@ Kansas State

Saturday November 12

Kansas State

@ Baylor

#1 - TCU HORNED FROGS 8-0

Conference Record: 5-0

Ranked #7 in AP & Coaches Poll

There's a path for the Horned Frogs to go the distance this year. They should be favored in each game here on out. It's trending towards a meetup with Kansas State in the Championship game and a possible undefeated season. Will that translate to a spot in the CFP??? Way too much season to play out before we go too far in that conversation.

NATIONAL RANKINGS

  • Ranked #4 in points per game 44.2

  • QB Max Duggan ranks #6 with 22 passing TDs, #20 with 2,212 passing yards while only throwing 2 INTs on the year.

  • Ranked #15 with a 68.1% completion rate

Upcoming Games:

Saturday November 5

@ TCU
